K.Asif had so much self-belief that he gave nearly 14 years for the making of mughal-e-azam, he wants his scenes so realistic that he actually ordered to make a golden shoe for the character of Akbar whose feet wasn’t in the scene.
The famous song “pyar kiya to darna kya” was filmed in a set sheesh mahal. the type of glasses used in sheesh mahal was not found in India, K.Asif ordered the glasses from belgium. A heavily-discussed aspect of the set was the presence of numerous small mirrors made of Belgian glass, which were crafted and designed by workers from Firozabad.[5] The set took two years to build and cost more than ₹1.5 million[6] ($320,000),[7] equivalent to $3 million (₹200 million) adjusted for inflation.
Once Naushad ji asked the producer of the film why you are spending too much on the film and also you aren’t changing the director even he spent years on the film then the producer replied “K.asif is an honest man even after making a huge budget he still travels with a taxi and live in a small house, i know he spends all money in the film”.
